Brand Vaughan - Best in the Brighton Property Business

~ One of the main reasons I moved to Brighton was because of the amazing architecture, there is a wealth of styles with Georgian and Victorian property in abundance. In fact I love buildings so much that I even have a top five favourite streets.

Having such an interest in property I have also selected a favourite Estate Agency! First and foremost Brand Vaughan are lovely people, originally based in Kemp town, they have just opened their second office at 219 Preston Road, four times the size of their original office. Not only that, they have recently received note-worthy recognition for their successful formula from the Sunday Times Estate Agent of the Year Awards, winning a prestigious Gold for the Best Single Office Agency in the South East. Scoring highly on the mystery secret shopper category, they were the only Brighton Estate Agency to be considered, which illustrates how rigorous the selection process is.

As well as this they have also taken a much more dynamic route to showcasing properties online; offering free video tours on every property and a unique approach to searching for properties.  You can search for property according to lifestyle headings such as Boutique Shopping, Children Learning or Train Catching.  Each property has a quote from the owner with the property specification written by an expert copywriter and pictures taken by a Professional photographer, making the overall experience very appealing for both buyers and sellers.

So, to mark their achievements I thought I would go along and have a chat with one of the founders, David Vaughan, find out a bit more and show you a couple of recent properties they have taken on.
The Sunday Times award

David “Last year we won Bronze and we were over the moon with that, so a Gold is fantastic.

At the ceremony I received the award from the Olympic gold medal winner Rebecca Adlington, which was a real honour. It's great to receive recognition from experts within our industry. Obviously, it’s a huge team effort as a result of years of work, building up relationships with people and thinking outside the box as well. We’ve got professional copywriters writing the details, instead of Estate Agents. We try and get the right people doing the right jobs, for instance we have a professional photographer Andy working for us now and financial advisor Jim based at Preston Park. We also have a Sales Progression Manager, Annie who can deal with all of that side of things, which means our agents don’t have to worry about it and instead can just concentrate on selling properties and looking after our customers who are buying and selling. It makes sense, instead of the traditional approach of someone trying to do everything.”

Already seeing an upsurge in activity this year there is an increase in people putting their properties on the market and this is only set to increase with Spring normally the busiest time of year. “There are still a lot of people who were looking from last year who didn’t get what they wanted. We have kept their details, so that when the right property comes up we can let them know straight away and we know they’ll go for it.”

Current Brand Vaughan Properties March 2013

Just to give you a taster of what Brand Vaughan have recently taken on, I’ve taken two properties in different price brackets that show what’s currently on offer.

Egremont Place

The house on Egremont Place is priced at £650,000; it has Five bedrooms, four floors, a west facing garden, Queens Park at the top of the road with the sea and Kemp town village a 5 minute walk away.

The Owner’s comment, “We love the history of the house built in 1815. When we were modernising the kitchen we even found an 1820 coin under the kitchen floor.”

Hendrick's Idlerism, Dream Lab and Feasting at their Carnival of Knowledge 2013

~ It may only be the beginning of March, but when it comes to the Brighton Fringe in May it is definitely worth booking some events as soon as possible.  Pitching up this year at Angel House, 1 Brunswick Terrace in Hove, Hendrick’s have devised a Carnival of Knowledge, with a selection of beguiling events that will take place over the course of four days.

Last year, Hendrick’s created a pop-up library in Jubilee Square with so many curiosities and peculiar oddities to peruse while supping a delightful cocktail (and they really were, delightful) that a precedent has been set and much is anticipated as a consequence.

Running from 24th to 27th May 2013, there will be free admission throughout to the Hendrick’s Parlour Bar from 12 – 11pm, as well as a series of ticketed events, where they promise to provide a blend of unusual characters, eye-opening wisdom and exquisite cocktails for the curiously-minded.

Hendrick's gin cocktails
This year Hendrick’s will be joined by The Idler Academy, QI's Director of Information John Mitchinson, Mark Vernon, Murray Lachlan-Young, LAS theatre group and guest chefs, who are yet to be announced.

Their programme of events includes an exclusive evening of curious dishes, cocktails and entertainment; a symposium on the lesser-known philosophy of idlerism and a dream lab investigating stimuli for dreams.

As ever Hendrick’s compendium of offerings sounds beguiling and ingenious if a little hyperbolic, however last year they did deliver a fabulously designed setting, some highly enjoyable cocktails and a great selection of events.  So, check out these events, book online and then all you need do is look forward to a few cucumber and rose infused gin libations while your head sizzles with curiosity, or something like that anyway.
