Foodie Friday - Brighton Indian restaurant Malika

The weekend starts with Friday, yes! And I've got an Indian restaurant review to share with you. It's a great option for tandoor delights and is so large, you're not likely to be turned away even with self-distancing.

It's the largest Indian restaurant in the South East, with capacity for 160 people at socially distanced tables. In the last year the restaurant has also undergone a total refurbishment and is wheelchair friendly. In fact, not only is it easy to manoeuvre safely in the restaurant, the marina’s car park means that blue badge holders can park on the boardwalk level, where the restaurant is situated, and reach the restaurant free of stairs.

They have also just launched a 20% discount from the bill including alcohol when dining between 3 pm - 6 pm, Monday - Friday; and are offering a takeaway service between Hove to Rottingdean with free delivery.

Working in the restaurant are a team of staff headed by chefs, originally from Delhi, with many years experience in five-star hotels and resorts. Malika is keen to offer many vegan and vegetarian options, but as I was with my Welsh One, I joined him in choosing meat and fish for starter and main, with sides of plain and peshwari naan.

While I write, the memory of our meal last weekend, combined with reviewing the photos is making me hungry to return for some more tandoor. We tried a selection of tandoor cooked meats, starters of salmon tikka and tandoori prawn and for main, lamb biryani and chicken chettinad. It was an absolute feast.

Of all the delicious flavours we tried I would say the dishes I would want to return to were the chicken tandoor, the salmon and the prawn, which all tasted exceptionally good.

Our service was so friendly, which always adds to the general enjoyment of a meal out and as it is a local, independent restaurant in Brighton, I very much hope it rides the current difficult times and continues to gain many followers.

Malika Indian restaurant is located in Brighton Marina, which means free parking and a short walk to dinner. They've also gone above and beyond by investing in an innovative heating solution to keep customers warm over the next few months, whilst safeguarding against the spread of Covid-19. Malika’s owner, Lisa Kelly, decided to invest in an infrared heating system which uses technology based on heat transfer through infrared light.

With thanks to Malika for providing my Welsh One and I with a complimentary meal. I have not been paid to write this review and my views are my own.
