Days Away - Medieval family fun at Herstmonceux Castle

England's Medieval Festival - taking place this August Bank Holiday from Friday 26th August to Monday 29th August 2016 at Herstmonceux Castle in Sussex

The largest medieval event in the UK it offers a blend of history and fun for everyone within the spectacular setting of a castle grounds. 

Look out for entertainment from minstrels, magicians and 'The Mud Show' as well as jesters, jugglers and birds of prey.

Stay for the day and take in the sights, smells and sounds that people living during the middle ages would have experienced. 

Children can try their hand at drum, sword and jester school, as well as archery, medieval bushcraft, stage shows, pony rides, medieval skittles and crafts.

For food and drink lovers there will be craft ales, ciders and mead available at the Buxom Wench and Jester Taverns, as well as hog roasts over open coals.

There will be historical battles, jousting, performances, horses, archery, music, traditional crafts and glimpses of everyday life from the past.

Herstmonceux Castle is a fairy tale setting for a totally unique weekend away or day out. Wizards, jesters, knights, dragons and princesses await. During the day kids can join in Workshops for chain mailing, iron work, wood weaving, calligraphy, brass rubbing, candle making and stone carving.

Stay overnight and listen to some campfire storytelling. Enjoy a little star-gazing and the evening torch-lit procession. There will also be screenings at the outdoor cinema, fire shows and a wooden ferris wheel for the little ones to try out.

If you decide to stay you can choose from medieval glamping, standard camping in the castle grounds, or a real bed at the onsite Bed and Breakfast. Camping will be available for the full 4 nights and day guests will be welcome on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Families of all ages are encouraged to join in the fun from grandparents to babies and even pet dogs.
