Infamous since Biblical times, this ancient city’s history has inspired the creators behind Babylon festivals to bring the spirit of this Mesopotamian city back to life with a 21st century twist. And the Hanging Gardens of Brighton is just the beginning as they will be putting on a full-scale Festival in Wiltshire in August 2013.

The Go! Team, Hanging Gardens of Brighton

Headlining so far has been The Go! Team and Alabama 3, with Ska Cubano headlining today as part of three-days of live music and cabaret. The line-up has been created to blend the best in Dance, Electro-Swing, Gypsy Jazz, Hip Hop, Latin beats, Folk, Ska, Reggae, Rock, Balkan rave, Dubstep, and a stunning mix of cabaret and circus. Special guests include Jamie Catto, the Dub Pistols, Son of Dave, The Destroyers, White Mink, Molotov Jukebox, Ramschackle Circus, and Carnivalesque.

So far I've discovered a new band I like called Undercover Hippy, who are rocking some pretty sharp suits and mixing hip hop, bluegrass and rock for an upbeat sound. The Go! Team were absolutely brilliant last night in their 70s greens and yellows with their lead singer Ninja whose uncontainable energy lit up the stage in the most infectious way.  After their encore Ninja picked up her microphone lead and started skipping with it, Go Ninja Go Ninja!  Also headlining were Alabama 3  best known for composing the theme tune to the hit TV series The Sopranos, with a punk rock and country blues gospel sound and deep deep vocals their fans were absolutely loving it. Tonight will be the turn of the 12-piece latin rock steady legends Ska Cubano to leave the party smokin'.

Other performers include Son of Dave (formerly of the Crash Test Dummies) who played on Friday, entertaining with his totally unique sound of harmonica playing, beat-boxing and foot stomping percussion. On Saturday The Dub Pistols brought us their futuristic big beats.
Jamie Catto, a co-founder of super-group Faithless, also performed a live set and presented an art exhibition from his award-winning 1 Giant Leap project.

While White Mink, who have already won a place in the BestBitsAboutBrighton Blog and Molotov Jukebox, led by Natalia Tena (of Harry Potter fame), will be providing the dirty electro-swing GypStep to close the proceedings today.
