Foodie Friday - Waitrose presents Christmas 2015

Did I mind going to a Christmas event in London on the hottest day of the summer?

Not when it was to find out about what Waitrose would be up to this Christmas and discovered an amazing looking gold-dusted chocolate Toblerone inspired dessert containing a caramel and nougat mousse.

So with excitement mounting I swished through my favourite park in London, St James'. Up the steps beside the IOD (Institute of Directors) and along past the Royal Society.

Inside the grand hall at 3 Carlton House Terrace I was offered a Christmas cocktail and invited to step into a Christmas food bonanza.

This year Waitrose have created a signature blend of spices that smells divine and perfectly reflects the aromas we associate with Christmas. The mix contains nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamon, black pepper and tangerine and features in 30 of their products across their food, drinks and homewares ranges. It's absolutely lush as a shower gel and definitely worth trying, for it's lovely warming, sweet smell.

A smiling attendant offered me a bag of sparkle-dusted chocolates that will be available over Christmas - the three types were milk chocolate caramel, dark chocolate ganache and mandarin and almond praline. The flavours didn't disappoint as they melted in my mouth.

Next door I found a table of smoked salmon bites. Hailing from the Macrae's farm in Scotland, the salmon is kept lean by keeping them in low-density pens. They are then smoked in traditional kilns in old oak barrels previously used to mature whisky to enrich the flavour.

Through the next door were plates of party food. There will be 31 different options in their party food range this year, which includes a new alternative to sausage rolls with their pulled pork rolls. This version tasted lighter than a sausage roll and is a fun twist on an old favourite. The range has been designed to offer the greatest ease by cooking at the same temperature and will be available for six weeks from 25 November.

Finally upstairs were the desserts. There were gluten free alternatives and chocolate and victoria sponge cakes that looked like huge Christmas baubles.

One of the desserts that stood out for me was their version of the yule log, the decision to make it using fresh cream makes me think it will taste amazing (I didn't try this on the day).

But for me the most exciting offering of the whole day was their gold-dusted, Toblerone inspired dessert. Inside are layers of chocolate caramel mousse, crunchy chocolate biscuit, salted caramel and nougat mousse.

If you're looking for your ta-dah moment this Christmas, just buy this dessert and you've got it covered.

Thanks to Waitrose for inviting me to their press day. My views are my own.
