Happy New Year 2014 to one and all!
What a grey and blustery day it has been. So, to introduce some warmth and colour I'd like to share my latest discovery. It's a store full of beautiful plants and homeware with a restaurant serving delicious food, events programme and a website providing recipes and guides for stylish living.
Brought to us by the Urban Outfitters crew,
Terrain has only two stores and unfortunately for me they are both stateside. However, their combination of exquisite objects and splendid food in an appealing setting gives me confidence that this won't be the last I'll be hearing about this enterprise.

Seasonal soup at Terrain |
The store I visited has only been open a couple of years in Westport, Connecticut and I loved it so much I went back twice! Founded in 2008, Terrain has another centre in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, providing the same mix of lifestyle shopping, eating and learning.

The assorted merchandise of clothing, toiletries, kitchenware and plants also includes the odd vintage item, such as a copper cupola circa 1890 that was for sale in the Westport store when I visited it last week.

Terrain breakfast |
Alongside this Terrain runs a year long events programme at their centres. To give you a flavour of the type of events they host, January 2014 Westport will be offering Morning Meditation, Create a Kid's Weck Jar Garden and a Qi Gong Class (a gentle form of exercise involving rhythmic movements inspired by nature).

If all this sounds right up your garden path and you live too far away to travel to either of their stores then they have a
blog worth checking out. Featuring beautiful photography with recipes such as
Winter Wassail; information about plants and how to guides for
entertaining, gift wrapping and making decorations it's full of useful and interesting information.
